“Trends” & should you pay attention to them?

Trends are everywhere…trendy dances, clothing, hair, and home interiors. While it’s easy to change out a trendy piece of clothing, or let your bangs grow out (yikes!), interiors can be a little bit more tricky. So, should you even pay attention to trendy in interior design? Yes… and no.

Patterns and colors are fun to incorporate into inexpensive items such as throw pillows, an area rug, or accessories. Even a trendy wall color or a fun wallpaper (have you SEEN the removable wallpaper on the market?) can make an appearance.

Here are some ways you can incorporate the trends of 2024 into your home and not break the bank or kick yourself when the next trend comes around.

curvy table

This year furniture with curves is all the rage. Also, vintage and antique pieces are gaining popularity as they bring a sense of warmth and history to a home. This beautiful table is a stunning example of both.

shades of brown

People have tired of the cold shades of gray and are cocooning in shades of brown in 2024. This beautiful chocolate stucco is both warm and full of texture.

peachy keen

Peach tends to be quite divisive, but that didn’t stop trend-setting Pantone from making “Peach Fuzz” its color of the year for 2024. A deeper tone might be more palatable for those who don’t appreciate its sorbet hue. Think rich terra cotta, deep rust, or a lighter tone such as apricot (see below).

Another trend that started in 2023, but is gaining momentum this year is “grand-millennial style” (it goes by several other names as well. It is a style that harkens back to our grandparents’ decorating style of chintzes, ditzy prints, florals, and mixing them all together. Pairing these with vintage and antique pieces is a way to make your home feel cozy, collected, and nostalgic. I’m a big fan of this trend and I see it staying around for a good long while.

Speaking of antiques, they are, in themselves, a huge trend this year. With a continued concern for the environment and our overflowing landfills, second-hand, upcycled, thrifted, vintage, and antique furniture is not only a trend but a smart way to furnish your home. You might be surprised that a quality vintage or antique piece can be close to the same price, or even less expensive than furniture you have to assemble yourself from a discount store.

So, should you pay attention to trends? I personally believe in timeless design, but finding ways to mix in trending pieces can keep your spaces feeling current. I wouldn’t pour a large portion of your budget into trending designs, but allotting a small portion to pieces that can be easily changed when you want to update them, or see a new trend you want to try, makes perfect sense.

When it comes down to it, your home is a reflection of you and the other people who live in it. If you want to live in a home full of the latest trends, by all means, do.

And when you eventually tire of them, just give me a call ;)

Cheers!

Jenn
